Again, I have problems with the data relating to the relationship between George Allen and William Waller, colonist of 1650. True, there is little documentation on these men, but the statement that Mary Allen who was the wife of William Waller, colonist of 1650, that she was the daughter of George Allen, colonist, is not feasible.
(1) Both men died around the late 1680s. I have found no verification of that date, but it appears that chidren of both men began purchasing land or getting married in the early to mid 1690s.
(2) I cannot prove, by a document, that George Allen’s children were: William Allen (1675-1741) and his brother and sister identified through the Overwharten Parish Registry, as John and Elizabeth Allen. But these three were bro and sis, and Wm. Allen was born in 1675. The sparsh records of Stafford Co on that period (1650 - 1700) do not reveal any other Allen male in the Acquia Creek area that could have been their father, hence, it is a fair assumption that George Allen was their father. This indicates he married around the same time as did William Waller, colonist of 1650. William Waller, colonist, had a son born in 1663 according to the Overwharten Parish Registry. Also, this William Waller II, married Elizabeth Allen, daughter of George Allen. She and Wm. (II) had two sons, WM.(III) and George Waller who married their first cousins, Margaret and Sarah Allen, daughters of William Allen (son of George Allen).
Now for the wife of George Allen, colonist of 1650. Various Waller Family books have said she was Mary Withers, I have found no documentation to verify that, but circumstantial evidence implies it to be true. There was a William Withers and his brother Capt. John Withers that settled in Virginia in 1648. Capt. John Withers was a wealthy merchant and large land owner in the general area of Acquia Creek in Stafford Co. Va. He had only two daughters, no sons. He left a large tract of land to his daughter Sarah (Conway) for her lifetime, then it went to his "cousin" William Withers. This part is well documented where she sold the land to John Washington who gave it to his son Samuel. After Sarah (Conway) died, William Withers Jr.(ca.1670s-aft1748) took Samuel Washington to court and got paid for the land. This William Withers,Sr.(1636-1698) was the brother to Capt John Withers (1634-1698). There is no information on any other children of William Withers Sr. except 2 sons, James Withers (1670-1746) who married Elizabeth Keene, and William Withers Jr.(ca.1670s-aft1748). Three of the children of James Withers and Elizabeth Keene, married into the Allen and Waller lines. This gives rise to the distinct possibility that all three of these families. Waller, Withers and Allen were of the same social and political group, which was impprtant in those days. Now it appears evident that William Waller (1636 Eng -1699) Stafford Co Va) had other children born, possibly in the 1670 timeftame.
Now, George Allen, colonist of 1650 is "said" to have married Mary Withers. If so, she could have been a sister to Capt. John and William Withers who came to America in 1658. Then William Withers,(1638-1698) whose son we know as James Withers(1670-1748) could have had unidentified sisters, Margaret and Ursula, that married the sons of George Allen and Mary (Withers). Historically, Margaret and Ursula were common female names back several generations in the Withers genealogy in England.
Another item I challange is the statement that George Allen, colonist, married Jane Hackney. Jane Hackney married a George Allen about 1726/8 in (then) Prince Willian Co., Va. That George Allen was a grandson of the George Allen, colonist of 1650. Someone goofed there.
To outline what I have said above, unproven names are bracketed ] below:
William Waller, colonist, d. ca 1698 Stafford Co Va w.- [Mary Allen] of liverpool (which was the port of departure of the ship, not necessiarly where she came from).
They had one child: William Waller (II) 1663-1703) who married Elizabeth Allen, [dau of George and Mary]. Wm. II and Elizabeth Waller had 3 ch., William Waller III, Elizabeth Waller, and George Waller. William III, and George Waller, brothers, married sisters, Sarah and Margaret Allen, daughters of William and Margaret Allen.
George Allen, colonist, said to have died [about 1689] in Stafford Co., Va. He [married Mary [Withers] about 1672/4 and had 3 children]. These brothers and sister were; William Allen (1675-1741), John Allen, and Elizabeth Allen. Elizabeth, we know, married William Waller II. William and John Allen’s wives were, Margaret and Ursula respectively. [It is probable that they were sisters and daughters of William Withers (1634-1698)]. There are a lot of first cousins getting married, and the cousins in all three family lines continued to intermarry, especially on the Wm. Allen and Elizabeth Allen Waller, and James Withers lines.
This is my analysis of the Waller-Allen-Withers connections in Stafford Co., Virginia. I cannot verify the assumed [bracketed] statements, records that would prove or disprove this are long gone, I feel the circumstances bear heavy in favor of these assumptions.
A recent question regarding the origin of William Waller and George Allen has been raised to me by another researcher. There is an unanswered question regarding how Charles Waller, who died in Essex Co., Va. came to own land in the Acquia Creek area. A question has been raised as to whether this Charles Waller of Essex Co. Va is the Charles Waller that came to St. Marys Co Maryland in the 1620s became, disenchanted with the lack of freedom, and moved across the Potomac River to Virginia about 1648 with the young men, William Waller and George Allen in tow. William Waller being a son(?) he left to "tend" his lands in Stafford Co., when Charles Waller Sr. and family, moved on down the Neck to Essex Co. Va where other lands awaited him.
This question raises many other questions. We know that Nathaniel Pope Sr. came to Virginia by this route, via, St. Marys Co., Maryland, and that Nathaniel Pope, Sr. and Capt John Withers and his brother William Withers were old friends back in England. If my health permits, I intend to research this "idea", to see if there could be any validity to it.
